Dude Ranches on the East Coast
Want to experience a dude ranch vacation, but live on the east coast? No worries. There are plenty of dude ranches on the east coast that you can choose from.
A dude ranch is often depicted as something that exists only where cowboys are. More particularly, we are talking about Texas. In truth, a dude ranch is pretty much any working ranch and some of the best are actually in places like Argentina [great steak!], Australia and so on. While the east coast may not be traditional dude ranch country, there are some fine options in the area. Let’s take a look.
Our first stop is at the Buck Valley Ranch. It is located in south, central Pennsylvania in Warfordsburg. The ranch is located in the Appalachian Mountains and focuses heavily on horse activities. Trips and trails can be ridden and all experience levels are welcomed. Nights come with meals provided as well as pool and hot tubs to soak out the bumps of the day. Buck Valley is a relaxing ranch and good for what ails ya.
Shangrila Retreat Guest Ranch is a ways south of our last entry. It is located in South Boston, Virginia. This is a bit more of a classic dude ranch in that the activities available include all things involving horses, but with wagon rides and the like thrown in. There is also fishing and hunting available for those who are enthusiasts. You can even bring your own horses if you like.
Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland, New York is our next entry. This is part dude ranch and part resort. In truth, it is more of a vacation destination with a dude ranch theme, but that is fine. It is very family friendly and offers horseback riding and wagon rides in the summer as well as sleigh rides in the winter. You can also go rock climbing, canoeing and fishing if you like. All and all, it is a good place to kick back and relax.
Are there dude ranches worth your time on the east coast? Absolutely. Any of the above three will turn the trick for you and your family. Enjoy!
