Disney has long dominated the family resort niche. Now it is branching out with the Best Friends luxury pet resort that will open on August 27, 2010 at Disney World.

Many people treat their pets like a certified member of the family. I have to admit I do this with our hound dog. He eats better than I do! Owning a pet, however, can be a problem when you want to go on vacation. Leaving them in a kennel seems a bit cruel and you can never be sure what will happen if you leave them with random fans. 

Disney is aiming to address that problem for visitors to its Disney World park in Florida. It will launch the Best Friends Pet Resort on August 27th and what a resort it will be. The Resort is comprised of 50,000 square feet divided evenly between indoor and outdoor facilities. The facility will cater to cats, dogs, birds and even exotic animals. Prices start at $37 a room a day. 

Then it gets a bit over the top. What if you really want to cater to your pet? Well, you can pay an extra fee to have them join a play group with other pets. You can also give them the life of luxury with grooming and even a private villa. Yes, a private villa. In this villa, they can lounge while you hit the park and even take in a movie on their flat screen television. Of course, how you get them to leave the life of luxury is another topic entirely!

The Best Friends Pet Resort is new to Disney World, but it is not a new concept in general. Pet resorts are becoming a popular addition at many vacation destinations as resort try to cater to potential guests that have pets they don’t want to leave behind.
