Disney Raising Prices As Of August 5, 2010

Disney is bucking a trend when it comes to resort prices these days. Instead of lowering prices, Disney is actually raising prices as of August 5, 2010.

Disney has a history of pushing the pricing envelope since it has such a strong brand. While Six Flags bombed into bankruptcy the last year, Disney never faced such a fate even in the depths of the Great Recession. That being said, the latest price increases are a big surprise.

So, what are we talking about here? Disney is raising prices for two resorts – Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida. Put another way, the company is basically hitting up the prices on the two biggest resorts in America, something that families will no doubt lament in these tough times.

The price increases are being instituted across a number of areas. The first area is parking. It will go up a buck a visit at Disneyland, which puts the total at a rather staggering $15 a day just to park at the, well, parks. Then there is the annual pass. It will go up $20 a year for Disneyland and $10 a year for Disney World in Florida. A daily ticket for adults will go up a staggering $14 for both parks.

All and all, these are some major price increases. The decision to institute the increases is a bit baffling because we can hardly say that the Great Recession is over. Disney has always offered quality parks, but it has also always been an expensive visit. These new prices make that all the more so, but most families are not exactly in a position to be spending more money.

If you are planning a Disney vacation, may sure you stay on top of prices. There is no guarantee that this is the last price increase for the year.
